Films and Video

When the Lumière Brothers projected a film for the first time – using a technique originally discovered by Thomas Alva Edison – a whole new range of visual possibilities was opened, which until then was unimaginable.

Various experts have concluded that 1897 marks the year in which the first films shown in Venezuela. Already by 1906, there were many theatres projecting movies. Among the Vollmer family there were several 16 mm fans; most used Kodak 16 mm film, which was then sent to the United States to be developed.

In order to rescue these long forgotten images, we resorted to the expertise of Cine Archivo at Bolivar Films (Caracas, Venezuela). Once cleaned and restored, the media firm AR & Asociados (Caracas, Venezuela) recorded the films on digital Betacam, thus enabling us to reproduce them in QuickTime for this Web Site.

In more recent years, the commercial activities related to the Foundation and other family enterprises have been extensively filmed. You will find the institutional Video done to celebrate the 200 Years of the Hacienda Santa Teresa in 1996.

The original films are stored by the Alberto Vollmer Foundation in a specially designed deposit. We hope you enjoy the clips we have prepared for you.
